In the last blog I talked about
CAN YOU LIVE ON A VENTILATOR AND TRACHEOSTOMY WITH A GOOD QUALITY OF LIFE?
You can check out last week’s blog by clicking on the link here.
In today’s blog I want to talk about the contrast of clients experiences when they are at home on life support with intensive care at home compared to when they are staying in intensive care long-term!
A Patient experience nurse 24 hours a day at home for half of the cost!
In recent years many intensive care units (ICU’s) have created positions for “Patient experience nurses”.
These positions are focusing on delivering better Patient experiences in intensive care…
Those positions are mainly focused on the experiences of long-term intensive care Patients.
Those positions are missing the point especially when it comes to long-term ICU/PICU Patients.
Long-term ICU/PICU Patients especially on ventilation with tracheostomy don’t need a Patient experience nurse in intensive care, what they need is to go home with an accredited and specialised service like intensive care at home!
Once long-term ICU/PICU Patients have left a depressing and sterile intensive care environment and gone home to continue care and treatment at home by having 24/7 ICU/PICU nurses come to their home they don’t need hospital or ICU/PICU based “patient experience nurses”.
What they can get at home can’t compare with ICU/PICU because the Patient or client experience at home can’t be matched in ICU/PICU or long-term weaning units.
The families experiences at home also can’t be matched in ICU/PICU or in long-term weaning units.
The client and family experience is so much better at home than in ICU/PICU period.
Compare “living” in ICU/PICU or long-term weaning units to having 24/7 ICU/PICU nursing skills coming to a client’s and family home and continue care and treatment in the warmth of their own home.
Our clients and their families have a team of highly skilled “patient experience nurses” come to their home 24/7 to create their experience in the environment of their choosing.
This experience is a much better experience compared to “living” in ICU/PICU.
Most of our clients report a good quality of life at home and in some instances they report a good quality of end of life.
Either way, the patient/client experience is what matters. Ask our clients what they want to experience, staying in ICU/PICU indefinitely with a poor patient experience and no quality of life or going home and have a much improved quality of life/quality of end of life and a good experience.
“Patient experience nurses” in ICU/PICU are missing the point and those resources could be used to look at an early discharge to go home for long-term intensive care patients so they can create their own experience in their own home.
Our team of “Patient experience nurses” can help you and your family to create that experience in your own home 24/7!
Do you want the good news?
Besides our clients and their families being at home instead of ICU/PICU or long-term weaning units, it comes at half of the price of a $5,000-$6,000 per bed day ICU/PICU bed and it therefore creates a win-win situation!
But we don’t stop by clients going home and leaving ICU/PICU and help health funding agencies cutting the cost of an ICU/PICU bed by 50%.
Our reach goes much further!
Most of our clients can not only live in the comfort of their own home, they can also actively participate in social activities such as going back to school, spend time with significant others etc…
Now that’s an experience…
